What Should Be Checked Before Starting a Commercial Diesel Generator?

A pre-start check confirms that the area, visible equipment condition, controls and responsible people are ready before a start request. It does not authorize dismantling or energized testing.

A standby set may sit idle for long periods while fuel, batteries, ventilation paths, stored materials and control modes change. A short, traceable check can reveal conditions that should stop the start request before rotating, hot and energized systems become active.

Do not request a start when an immediate hazard is visible

Fire, visible arcing, a major fuel release, exposed damaged conductors, exhaust obstruction, severe fluid loss or people inside a restricted work zone require the site emergency or isolation process—not another start attempt.
