Why This Design: Expansion Must Address Capacity, Redundancy and Maintenance Windows Together
An expansion can replace the generator with a larger unit, add paralleled capacity, retain the existing unit for segmented loads or begin with distribution allowances. Each path has different costs, redundancy and maintenance complexity; added kVA alone is not enough to decide.
A paralleling design must address synchronization, load sharing, automatic start/stop, N+1 redundancy and future expansion. Replacing an existing generator requires review of outage windows, temporary power and transfer risk. Construction scope and after-sales maintenance responsibilities must be defined together.
